Audiobook deal alert!

Hi Reader,

June is Audiobook Month, and I haven't yet talked to you about audiobooks, so let's do it!

Audiobooks are what got me back into reading about ten years ago. I was spending a lot of time in the car and just wasn't getting enough stimulation from the radio or podcasts.

Since then, I have read around 50 audiobooks per year. They accompany me on ALL mind-numbing tasks, from folding laundry to putting away dishes. They also give my very tired eyes a break from staring at words on screens or books all day and night.

Whether you're new to audiobooks or an aficionado, I've got some book recommendations AND deals for you today, so keep scrolling.

Deals, Deals, Deals!

Audible: 3 months free for 99 cents/month. (cancel anytime) I grab this deal whenever it's available so I can access Audible exclusives that I can't find anywhere else, like classic novels narrated by famous actors, which I read for our Gilmore Girls book club! Notably, you do not need to be new to the service to qualify for this deal, but you must click here to check if it currently applies to your specific account.

Amazon Music: 3 months FREE for a limited time. (cancel anytime) This service offers you one audiobook to listen to per month (to compete with Spotify). A brilliant new way to get a few free audiobooks this summer!

Libro.FM: Get three audiobooks for the price of one when you start a new one-credit-per-month membership with code FRIDAY. (cancel anytime) I use this service to support independent bookstores! You can choose your local one or support them generally. This is the provider I primarily use (besides the library).

Libro.fm: Kids' audiobooks as low as 99 cents through 6/30. Get them started young! I wish I could have done some of my required reading this way.

Now that you've scored some deals, here are the audiobooks I recommend out of the hundreds I've listened to:

My Favorite Fiction Audiobooks

  • Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid: narrated by a full cast like a documentary
  • Driving Miss Daisy by Alfred Uhry: narrated by actors James Earl Jones and Angela Lansbury on the Audible version (counts for our book club, too!)
  • The Dutch House by Ann Patchett (my top pick): narrated by actor Tom Hanks
  • The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas: narrated by Bahni Turpin like a movie!
  • Tom Lake by Ann Patchett: narrated by actress Meryl Streep

My Favorite Nonfiction Audiobooks

My Favorite Audiobook Memoirs

(The author narrates all but the last one.)

Hope you have a great summer weekend.

Remember, it's a good day to read a book.

-Jules
